The obituary for Edith Spaulding was carried in the Hearld Palladium on 
Wednesday 20 Apr 1977 and reads: “Mrs. H. Spaulding Sawyer-Mrs. Harry (Edith) 
Spaulding, 89, of Route 1, Hildebrandt road, Sawyer, died Tuesday in Claremont 
Nursing Home, Benton Harbor. She was born 19 Aug 1887, in Lake township. She 
was a member of the Christian United Church of Christ, Sawyer. Surviving 
besides her husband, to whom she was married on Nov. 5, 1903, are a son, Elton 
Spaulding, Lansing, Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. Phil (Vera) Sexton, Benton 
Harbor and Mrs. Roy (Ruth) Valerius, Canyon County, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. 
Effie Myers, Bridgman; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral 
services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Boyd funeral home, Bridgman, 
where friends may call after noon Thursday. Burial will be in New Troy 
cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.”
