April 13, 1933, page 1 CLYDE E. SPAULDING DIES THIS MORNING Had Been Rural Mail Carrier at Berrien Springs for Past 27 Years Clyde E. Spaulding, native of Oronoko township and a rural mail carrier on Route 1 from the Berrien Springs postoffice for 27 years, died at his home on South Main street about seven o’clock this morning. Mr. Spaulding’s illness dated from about June last summer when a heart ailment obliged him to take a vacation of several months to recuperate his health. On January 3rd he returned to work but near the end of the month became ill with the flu which left him in a weakened state. Bright’s disease was given as the immediate cause of his death. Mr. Spaulding was born April 1, 1880 on the Spaulding homestead west of Berrien Springs, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmore Spauding[sic], pioneers of the community. He was a popular and accommodating official and was esteemed by a wide circle of friends. Mr. Spaulding was prominent in Masonic activities having served as Master of Western Star ledge F. & A.M. during the years 1914, 1919 and 1920 and was secretary of the lodge at the time of his death, a position he had held for three years. He was also a member of the Elks lodge of St. Joseph. The deceased is survived by his widow, Ruth Boyd Spaulding, an adopted daughter Carolyn, and two brothers, Arthur O. Spaulding of Oronko township and Lester of the state of Washington. A son passed away in infancy. Funeral service will be conducted at the Methodist church at 2:30 C.S.T. Sunday afternoon followed by a Masonic service at the grave in Rose Hill cemetery.
