STEVENS RITES WILL BE HELD THIS AFTERNOON Funeral services for the late Will Stevens, 65, lifelong resident of the Eau Claire farm community, will be conducted this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Bowerman Funeral home. The Rev. M.R. Davis of the Berrien Springs U.B. church, will officiate and burial will be in the family lot in Maple Grove cemetery. Mr. Stevens died Monday at the Oceana hospital at Hart, Mich. He was visiting a sister, Mrs. Ada Wood, at Tallman, when he was taken ill. His relatives started to drive to Eau Claire hoping to reach the home of Mrs. W.A. (Edith) Dillon, his other sister, with whom he made his home, but as his condition became much worse, he was taken to the Hart hospital. Funeral Director F.A. Bowerman went to Hart for the remains early Tuesday. William E. Stevens was born in Berrien township, May 22, 1873, the son of Edward and Lucy (Godown) Stevens, pioneers of the township. The old homestead, the Stevens-Dillon place, located two and one half miles southwest of Eau Claire on the St. Joseph river, is now the summer home of Judge Lioniel Thorness of Chicago. Mr. Stevens never married. Besides his two sisters, Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Dillon, he leaves a number of nieces and nephews. Niles Daily Star, Tues. April 4, 1939, page 2 W.E. Stevens Dies; Rites in Eau Claire EAU CLAIRE, April 4.-William E. Stevens, lifelong resident of Berrien county, died Monday in Oceana hospital, Hart. He was 65 years old. Mr. Stevens became ill while visiting a sister, Mrs. Ada Wood, Pullman[sic]. En route to his home in Pipestone township his condition became critical and he was taken to the hospital. Mr. Stevens was the son of the late Edward and Lucy Stevens, pioneer residents of Berrien county. He was born in Berrien township, May 22, 1873. Besides Mrs. Wood, he is survived by one other sister, Mrs. Edith Villon[sic], with whom he made his home. Services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the Bowerman funeral home, Eau Claire. Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery.
