Sept. 27, 1928, page 1 Niles Daily Star, Thurs. Sept. 27, 1928, page 1 COUNTY BAR PRESIDENT, GEORGE M. VALENTINE, DIES OF LONG ILLNESS Attorney George M. Valentine of Benton Harbor, president of the Berrien County Bar association, died this morning in Clinic hospital at Michigan City, Ind. after a lingering illness. Attorney Valentine had resided in Berrien county practically all his life and for many years was known as one [of] the county’s leading lawyers. His health failed last winter following a severe attack of influenza. Three months ago he was taken to the hospital in Michigan City for treatment. He was aged 76 years. Deceased is survived by two sons, Edson of Benton Harbor, and Lawrence, cashier of the State Bank of Berrien Springs. Funeral services will be held tomorrow in the Masonic Temple in eBnton[sic] Harbor under auspices of the Masonic blue lodge and Knights Templar. Circuit court will adjourn at noon and members of the county bar will attend the funeral in a body. Berrien Springs Era, Thurs. Sept. 27, 1928, page 1 DEATH COME TO ATTORNEY VALENTINE WEDNES’Y NIGHT Attorney George M. Valentine, dean of Berrien county lawyers and president of the Berrien County Bar association passed away at a Michigan City hospital last evening following an illness of some months due to the infirmities of age. He had been at the hospital for some weeks under care of his nephew, a prominent physician of LaPorte, Ind. and his death had been momentarily expected for several days. He was 79 years of age. Attorney Valentine was one of the best known men of the county and had been among the foremost in the law profession for half a century. His home was in Benton Harbor. Highly esteemed within and without the profession, Attorney Valentine will be mourned by a host of friends and relatives. G.L. valentine, cashier of the Berrien Springs State Bank and Attorney Edson B. Valentine of Benton Harbor are surviving sons. A.P. Valentine of Berrien township is a brother of the deceased. Funeral services will be held from the Masonic temple in Benton Harbor, Friday afternoon at two o’clock.
