Aug. 24, 1922, page 6 Journal Era, Thur., Aug. 24, 1922 page 4 PIONEER DIES; HAD LIVED HERE 83 YEARS John Weaver, one of the oldest pioneers of this vicinity, died at the home of his son, V.S. Weaver, Sunday, being past 91 years of age. John S. Weaver, son of David and Anne Weaver, was born in Xenia, Grace county, Ohio, December 15, 1830, and died at Berrien Springs, August 20, 1922, being 91 years, 8 months and 5 days of age. He came to Michigan with his parents in 1838 when 8 years old and settled on a farm in Berrien Township. He was the last of 5 children, 2 sisters older, Mrs. Mary Whaley and Mrs. Harriet Eidson, and 2 younger, Mrs. Isabuida Hudson and Mrs. Elizabeth Dill, having previously passed away. He was married to Mary Jane Crum the 4th of February, 1862, they having two children, Wm D. Weaver of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Volcah S. Weaver of Berrien Springs, Mich. His wife died July 3rd, 1879, and on Sept. 7, 1881, he was united in marriage to Marie L. Valentine, of Coloma, Mich., who survives him. He was a faithful member of the Methodist church for 48 years. Funeral services were held Wednesday P.N. at M.E. church, Rev. J.H. Bancroft officiating, with burial at Rose Hill cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Crum of Chicago, near relatives, were here for the funeral. Niles Daily Star-Sun, Thurs. Aug. 24, 1922, page 6 BERRIEN SPRINGS John S. Weaver died Sunday at his home on Murdock street, where he and been an invalid for several years. He was born in Ohio and was 91 years old. Most of his life had been spent n this village and vicinity. He leaves his wife and two sons, Will Weaver of Chicago, and Volcah S. Weaver, of Berrien springs. The funeral service was held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J.H. Bancroft.
