Etched on the stone is "AS A MEMORIAL TO THE HARDY MEN AND NOBLE WOMEN WHO 
ENTERED A TRACKLESS FOREST TO MAKE THEIR HOMES = SETTLED THE TOWNSHIP OF 
PIPESTONE AND FOUNDED THE VILLAGE OF SHANGHAI = THIS STONE IS DEDICATED. 1837".
