ALDRICH Abram J. Aldrich, one of the editors and proprietors of the Coldwater Republican is a gentleman in the prime of his life, and the midst of his usefulness, having been born Feb. 3, 1843, and a native of Girard Township, this county. His father, William Aldrich, was born in Macedon, Wayne County, N.Y., July 26, 1811, and was the son of Abram Aldrich, Sr., a native of Upton, Worcester Co., Mass., and was born Dec. 3, 1775. Abram Sr. was reared and married in his native state, and later removed to the vicinity of Macedon, N.Y. In 1832 he came to the Territory of Michigan and was one of the first to settle in Union Township. He erected a saw mill near Hodunk. He died April 8, 1842. He married Feb. 17, 1801 to Sophronia Legg, who was born in Orange, Mass., Aug. 7, 1777. She died in Girard Twp., Dec. 30, 1837. Of their nine children, seven grew to maturity. Of these, William, the father of our subject was reared to manhood in his native state. He also came to Michigan in 1832 and settled in Girard Township. He died Aug. 26, 1850. He was first married in 1836 to Betsey Fisk, a native of N.Y. She died shortly after the wedding. He married a second time to Phebe Ransom, who was born Aug. 4, 1813 in in Ulster Co., N.Y., and departed this life at her home in Coldwater, Nov. 26, 1877. Her father Joseph Ransom was born May 21, 1768 and died Sept. 1838 in Lloyd, Ulster Co., N.Y. His wife Phebe was born June 23, 1778 and also died in Ulster Co., N.Y. on Jan. 2, 1846. They were the parents of eleven children. Mr. Aldrich was the only child of his parents. In 1873 he purchased an interest in the Coldwater Republican. He cast his first Presidential vote for Abraham Lincoln. In September 1870 he was united in marriage to Miss Clarissa A. Stearns, eldest child of George W. and Miranda (Tufts) Stearns, who was born in Rushville, Yates County, N.Y., Oct. 24, 1842. Mr. & Mrs. Aldrich have two children -- Mabel and William Irving.
