To this class belongs the gentleman whose name heads this sketch, and who was born in Bronson Township, Aug. 18, 1843. He is now engaged in general farming on section 18, in his native township. Benjamin P. Taggart is the son of David and Sarah Taggart, natives of New Hampshire and Mass., respectively, and of English origin. Our subject was united in marriage, March 25, 1879, with Miss Ella Owen, of Matteson Township. She was born in Lake County, in the Buckeye State, Sept. 26, 1857, and is the daughter of Hiram and Mary Owen, natives of Ohio and Mass., respectively. When advanced in life they removed to Michigan, and located in Matteson Township, this county, where the mother died about one year after their settlement. The father then returned to his native state, but subsequently came to Michigan, where he spent the remainder of his life, dying in 1878. The union of Mr. and Mrs. Taggart has been blessed by the birth of four children -- Sarah Bernice, Ella Bertha, Burton P. and Frances Maude.
