Chicago Inter-Ocean October 25, 1875
Battle Creek, Mich., Oct. 24

Tennie Taylor, of Marshall, a colored boy 11 years old, was accidentally shot 
on Friday night while out hunting with some other boys in the woods south of 
the city. In attempting to fire the gun he held it against his breast. The gun 
was heavily loaded and the recoil caused it to strike his breast with such 
force as to produce paralysis of the lower part of the lungs. His companions 
carried him home, but his injuries were so serious that he died shortly after.
