Baker, 69, of Springfield, died Tuesday in Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, where he had been a patient since April 22. He had been in poor health since the middle of April. Born in Franklin, Ohio, he moved to Battle Creek as a small child. He was machinist for Franklin Electric Co. for 29 years, retiring as supervisor in 1982. He also had been a foreman for 8 years at Clark Equipment and worked for the Battle Creek Packaging Company and the former Duplex Printing Company. He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran, serving as a private in the Asiatic- Pacific theater and Marians Islands. He was a member of American Legion Oscar Brady Post No. 298, International Association of Machinist, Fred Trost Michigan Outdoors and American Association of Retired Persons. He enjoyed gardening and the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and reader. Surviving are his wife; 2 sons; 1 daughter; 4 grandchildren; 1 great- grandchild; 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Services will be at 12:00 pm Thursday in Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial donations may go to Battle Creek Fraternal Order of Police, American Legion Oscar Brady Post No. 298 or Salvation Army.
