Battle Creek Enquirer Dec. 18, 1973
Athens - George L. Conine, 84, died Monday in Community Hospital in Battle Creek
after a six month illness.
Conine was born Leonidas and died one day after his 84th birthday. He lived in 
Athens for 39 years.
He retired in 1954 from Union Pump Co. In Battle Creek he was a carpenter for 
28 Years, he was also a farmer.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War 1. He married to the former Melissa 
McNees in 1914, she died in 1969.
After his retirement, he dug a private trout lake and built dune buggies and 
traveled to many dune buggie events.

He is survived by 4 daughters, 6 sons, 26 grandchildren, six great grand 
children, 1 sister and 1 brother.
Services will be held at 1:30 pm Thursday at Spencer Funeral Home.
