He had been ill five years. He was born in Battle Creek and was employed for 29 years by the former Michigan Carton Co., retiring in 1974. He was a member of Eagle Lodge 299, and had been active in the baseball leagues in the Battle Creek Civic Recreation Department. He attened St. Phillip Catholic Church. Surviving are his widow, the former Constance Shanley (should say the former Constance THURSTON); sons Phillip Corkins of Texas and Joseph W. of Battle Creek; a daughter Joan Corkins of Battle Creek; his mther Mary Bernice Corkins of 554 Bedford Road; step sons Donald L. Thurston of Orange Park, Fla., and Phillip H. Thurston Jr.; step daughters Mrs. Richard (Terry Ann) Brown, Mrs. Christine Frye and Miss L. Ethel Tina Thurston; four grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Jack (Madonna) Mapes, Mrs. Clifford (Irene) Mills and Mrs. Benny (Patricia) Chesebro all of Battle Creek, and Mrs, Carolyn Hillary of Niles, and his step-mother Mrs. Marion Corkins of Battle Creek. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Shaw Funeral Home.
