Memorial services for Lena McKelvey, Cecil Countant and George Goodenow, the three little victims of the recent Haskell Home disaster, were held this (Saturday). Brief addresses were given by Elder L. McCoy, Elder T. C. Tenney, Rev. B. F. Taber and Manager R. S. Owen. The children from the Orphange attended the services. Burial services for the victims were hel Friday afternoon, and burial was in the Haskell Home Cemetery. FROM THE PAGE TITLED VICTIMS OF THE HASKELL HOME FIRE (WILLARD LIBRARY, BATTLE CREEK, MI): TWO GIRLS AND ONE BOY LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE EARLY MORNING FIRE THAT DESTROYED THE HASKELL HOME ON FEBRUARY 5, 1909. THE GIRLS WERE CECIL COUTANT AND LENA MCKELVEY. THE BOY WAS GEORGE GOODENOW. THE REMAINS OF THE CHILDREN WERE BURIED IN THE HASKELL HOME CEMETERY IN A SINGLE CASKETT FURNISHED BY THE BROTHERS OF LENA MCKELVEY. LENA MCKELVEY was the daughter of JOhnston McKelvey and Hester Demary and was 14 years old when she died in the fire. She had been staying in the Haskell Home temporarily while taking treatments at the Sanitarium for an injured hand. Although her remains were never moved, a gravestone for her was placed on the family lot in the Wilcox Cemetery in Maple Grove, Barry County, Michigan. The Stone Reads: LENA MCKELVEY 1895-1909.
