Born in Rickman, TN. Jim graduated a varsity letterman from Rickman High School; he was offered full athletic scholarship to Tennessee Polytechnic Institute. He completed Tennessee State Trooper training prior to enlisting with U.S. Army with assignment in the Ninth Infantry Regiment, Fort Lewis, WA. Employment with Grand Trunk Western Railroad brought Jim and Frances to Battle Creek; he retired on May 29, 1992. Jim played, and officiated, basketball and baseball games throughout his life; he was a familiar face at local sporting events. He followed football including the Olivet Comets, Lakeview Spartans, and Tennessee Volunteers. He was a fervent Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves fan. He will be missed by Teddy and Ernie, his feline companions. His family asks you to honor Jim with random acts of kindness in his memory. Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Private services will be held Monday, 1:30 p.m. at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Burial will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Arrangements by the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, a member by invitation Selected Independent Funeral Homes. (269) 965-5145.
