Karen Marie (Cosgrove) Nickels, 54, lifelong resident of Marshall, died on 
Friday, December 21, 2007, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor 
after a long fight with Leukemia.
Karen worked for State Farm Insurance Company for 27 years. She retired in 
March of 2006 as an underwriter assistant, when the company left Marshall. 
After she retired, she worked as playground supervisor at Walters Elementary 
School. Karen was a former member of the Marshall Jaycees, and member of the 
Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed walking and had walked the Mackinac Bridge 
walk since 1984. She also enjoyed gardening, working in her flower bed, 
cooking, and taking care of her Boston Terriers. Karen enjoyed her family 
especially spending time supporting her children in their 4-H and sports 
activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will take place at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Wednesday from 
2-9 p.m. with family present from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service 
taking place at 7 p.m. Funeral services celebrating her life and her Lord will 
take at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Zion Lutheran Church with the Reverend 
Roger James officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. Memorial 
contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Zion Lutheran
