Osborne, age 68, of Marshall, passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2007 near Mackinaw City. Doran and his wife were on a tandem bike ride with many friends from Spring Lake to Mackinaw City, enjoying the sport they both so loved. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1957, then attended Central Michigan University, earning his Bachelors Degree in Education in 1961. In 1965, Doran earned his Masters Degree in Education from Western Michigan University. Later, he continued his education at Michigan State University, earning another Masters Degree, this time in Administration. He started his career in education teaching at Valley View Elementary in Springfield, where he taught for two years. Doran then joined the Mott Program in Flint for Community Directors to further his education, preparing him for his roll as an administrator. He served as principal of Cassopolis Elementary for two years before joining the staff at the Calhoun Intermediate School District as Director of the Materials Center. Later, he became the CISD Director of Technology, a position he held until retiring in 1995. Doran positively touched the lives of thousands of children as the result of his good life's work. During his career at CISD, Doran started the statewide AV Repairs and State Bid Buying Program, uniting districts across Michigan. This move saved the schools and tax payers many tax dollars over the years. But most importantly, it improved the children's education, which was always at the forefront of anything Doran did. That included his pioneering efforts to advance the use of technology in the schools as one of the first promoters of the use of computers in the classroom, as well as Interconnectivity in the Classroom, and Distance Interactive Learning. Doran was recognized by Central Michigan University for his contributions to education when he received their 75th Anniversary Award. He also was awarded the MACUL President's Award for contributions to the Advancement of Technology Learning. Doran was an active member of his community where he was a member of Rotary Club. There, he was chairman of the Christmas Parade, and was chairman of their Travelogue Program. He was a faithful member of Trinity Episcopal Church. He had served on the vestry several times, and was Senior Warden twice during his lifetime. Doran was responsible for many church projects, including the restoration of the stained glass windows. Doran's greatest joy was in his and Tweed's children and grandchildren, all whom he dearly loved. He had served as the co-president of both the Hughes and Crary School PTA's when they were young. He taught them the joy of bicycling, a sport that he and Tweed enjoyed for many years together. He also loved fishing, the outdoors and U of M football! He also passed on his love of learning, and the use of new technology to them all. Friends may call at Craig K.
