Petts, 80, of Battle Creek died Monday, August 13, 2007 at home. Donelda was in Bedford Township. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1944, she was one of the first female cheerleaders at Central. Donelda was employed at Percy Jones Hospital in the 1940s. She was a former member of the Urbandale UMC, attended Garrison Hills Wesleyan Church and while living in Arizona attended the First Baptist Church in Quartzite, Arizona. In all her churches she was a passionate Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed serving the Lord in every-way, she was an avid cook, collecting rocks with her husband on their many trips throughout the United States and collecting Native American Indian memorabilia and precious stones. During the 1980s they spent many winters in Quartzite, Arizona. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Karen Petts in 2005. At the request of the family, friends may call at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home on Thursday where they will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2007 at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Weesner of the Garrison Hills Wesleyan Church officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
