(Halfmann) Scanlan, 82, of Battle Creek, died Tuesday April 22, 1997, in Laurels Of Bedford Manor, where she had been a paitent 4 1/2 years. She was born March 3, 1915 in Peebles, Wis., to Peter and Pauline (Freund) Halfmann. She attended schools in Fond Du Lac, Wis., and Battle Creek Practical Nursing School in 1959. She had been a Battle Creek area resident since 1943 when she moved from Fond Du Lac, Wis. She was employed at Eaton Corp. and later as practical nurse at the Battle Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Leila Hospital and Lakeview General Hospital, reitiring in 1985. She married James P. Scanlan on April 25, 1946, in Battle Creek. He died in 1974. Surviving are a stepdaughter, Catherine McCorkle of California, and sisters, Olive Ryan of Plymouth, Wis., Elfrieda Kovach of Lincoln Park, and Rita LaLond of Battle Creek. She was proceeded in death by a stepson, J. Pearce Scanlan. Community Involvement, Hobbie: Member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and former member of St. Phillip Church, the Libary Association and its Alter Society. Started the hot lunch program at St. Phillips Church. Enjoyed playing Bridge. Visitation: After 2 p.m. today at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Vigil service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Jerome Catholic Church with the Rev. William J. Fitzgerald officiating.
