Scanlan, 87, of 92 Chestnut St., died today in Community Hospital, where he had been a patient since Aug. 31. He was born in Battle Creek and except for six years in Assyria had resided in Battle Creek all his life. He was employed as a foreman by Grand Trunk Westrn Railroad Co. and retired in 1963 after 45 years of service. He was a member of St. Phillip Cathloic Church, and a 60 year member of the International Brotherhood od Trainmen. He served overseas with the Army during the World War 1 and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Affairs. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, five grandchildren, and four great- grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in t. Phillips Catholic Church. Arrangements are by Shaw Funeral Home.
