John P. Shanley, 68,a former Battle Creek resident who was district and plant mangager of the Kellogg Co. operations at Sydney, Australia, for 35 years, died un expectedly yesterday at his home in Sydney. He had had been with the Kellogg Co. here for about a year, John when, in 1928 he was assigned to Sydney to manage the plant of the Kellogg Australia Proprietary Ltd., which is a wholly owned Kellogg Co. subisidiary. He retired June 30, 1963 and, with his wife, had twice visited in Battle Creek since then. The couple was last here ,this fall, having left Oct. 1. Mr. Shanley was born July 6, 1897, at Kalamazoo, son of John and Mary (Sparrow) Shanley, and came to Battle Creek with his parents as a child. He was a graduale of St. Philip High School. He was marricd here Aug. 20, 1923 to Inch Merchant, who survives, in addition to a daughter, Mrs. Benton (Donna Marie) Alexander of Torrance, Calif., and three sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Elizabeth) Sass of 290 Honey Lane, Mrs. Bernice Corkins of 554 Bedford Road and Mrs. Glan N. (Margaret) Wilson of Fullerton, Calif. Funeral sevices and interment, Monday will be at Sydney.
