  Mrs. Mary Shanley, 84, of 37 Pleasant Avenue, widow of the late John Shanley, 
died at 8 a.m. Sunday at home after a critical illness of three days. She had 
been in ill health since last August. She was born in Dublin, Ireland, June 9, 
1868, a daughter of Patrick and Elizabeth (Riley) Sparrow, and lived in Battle 
Creek for th past 60 years.
Her Husband died in 1940. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Mary Corkins of 554 Bedford Road, Mrs. 
Elizabeth Sass, with whom she made her home, of 37 Pleasant Avenue, and Mrs. 
Margaret Wilson of Los Angeles; and two sons James Shanley of 176 East 
Fountain, and John Shanley of Sidney, Australia; six grandchildren and five 
great-grandchildren.
