She was born July 17th somewhere between 1868-1869. Her Los Angeles, California death certificate says 1869. Cora Belle Briggs was suppose to have been born somewhere around Montcalm, MI. I have called several different county clerk offices, and none of them have records of her birth. Her parents were suppose to have been Robert Briggs & Anna Macomber. On March 14 1889 she married Lewis Dennis Babcock in Newton, MI. I was told by my grandfather ( Robert Babcock ) Cora Belles son, that his mother was 1/2 Indian, and that she had a very hard life, not being excepted by the whites, or the Indians. He also told me we were 4th cousins to Quannah Parker. I was fortunate to have met my great gramma, and she was such a kind, loving person. One of the things she was very proud of is, she had never had a hair cut in her life, her hair was black, and hung down on the floor, and drug behind her 12-18 inches, with only one small streak of grey hair, almost white. She always wore her hair on top of her head in a twist, or bun, and only took it down at night to brush. She had brown eyes, and stood about 5 ft 2 in tall. Great Gramma moved around a lot, all over MI. then to South Bend, Indiana, and ended up in Los Angeles, CA. with her daughter Jennie Pearl Babcock, who was married twice, Jennies first husband Clayton Link, died two years after their marriage, Jennie later in CA. married Joseph Lozier, who's mother's last name was Liningfeather. Cora Belle Briggs Babcock died Feb 9th 1962. Additional Comments: I am guessing that this photo was taken somewhere between 1934-1940 in South Bend, Indiana.
