He was one of 13 brothers and sisters. Bobby served his country in the National Guard and was based out of the Dowagiac Armory. When he was able, he worked in several area factories. Bobby's family includes his son, Steve Canard of Dowagiac; his mother, Hattie Canard of Dowagiac; siblings -- Shelby Canard of Dowagiac; Patsy (Ralph) Elkins of Eau Claire; Richard (Becky) Canard of Decatur; Betty Shepherd of Florida; Sarah Arlene (Andre) Bobo of Kentucky; Morris Canard of Dowagiac; Wilma (Jack) Miller of Knox, Ind.; Judy (Mitchell) Huizenga of Dowagiac; Nick (Michelle) Canard of Georgia; Mike Canard of Arkansas; Jackie (Jimmy) Reed of Dowagiac; and Tommy Canard of Dowagiac; and many nieces and nephews. Bobby died in his sleep at his home on Saturday, April 3, 2004. His father, Hubert Canard, preceded him in death. Bobby's family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 5, at the Groner Funeral Home and Cremation Service, where his funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, with the Rev. Bob Wallace of the Apostolic Lighthouse leading the service. Bobby will be laid to rest in South Wayne Cemetery following the funeral.
