Alfred was born 18 Nov 1918 in Calvin Township, Cass County, Michigan. Alfred attended public school in Calvin until 1932, when he sacrificed home and hoping to learn a trade attended the Vocational Training School in Flint Michigan. While he was home on vacation, at Christmas, he contracted a severe cold, from which he never fully recovered. It was stated Alfred was kind and had a pleasing disposition because of these attributes he was favorite among his playmates and friends. On Friday, 16 Mar 1934, at one o'clock, after a brief and gallant fight against lobar pneumonia at Hurley Hospital in Flint, Alfred Louis Grady was plucked from his youth at the tender age of 15 years, three months and 28 days. Alfred left to mourn his loss, his parents, Albert and Edith Grady of Cass County; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bennett of Cass County; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Grady, Sr. of South Bend, Indiana, Mr. and Mrs. Elisha Young of Ohio; one aunt, Ethel Skinner of South Bend;, five uncles, Efton and Charles Dungey of South Bend, Elton Hayes of Michigan City, Indiana and Russell and Otis Bennett of Cass County. Interment at Chain Lake Cemetery, Calvin Township, Cass County, Michigan next to his parents. His tombstone is homemade and composed of concrete and stone with hand carved numerals and lettering.
