Hawks 1926 - 2007 Maurice Eugene Hawks was born 22 December 1926. He was the son of Preston Hawks and Hazel Belle Ash. Maurice Hawks had one sister Mildred Leona Hawks. As a teenager Maurice Hawks was baptized in Christiana Creek. Maurice Hawks graduated from Cassopolis High School in 1944 and was class Valedictorian. Maurice Hawks married Ella May Minisee. They were the parents of four children. K Dwight Hawks, Louise Hawks, Dale Preston Hawks and Alice Marie Hawks. Maurice worked as a cabinet maker and in 1966 joined the St. Joseph Valley Bank as a teller and advanced to Vice President of Commercial Lending. Maurice also tended the family farm his entire life. The farm was originally purchased in the late 1800's. Maurice Hawks survived cancer and fought heart disease. Maurice Eugene Hawks died 12 September 2007 in Elkhart,Indiana. On Tuesday 18 September 2007 his funeral was held at the Connelly Funeral Home, Cassopolis, Michigan. Officiating the service was Pastor Sundria H. Wilson and Rev. Rebecca R. Mitchell. Interment was at Chain Lake Cemetery, Calvin Township, Cass County, Michigan. Additional Comments: Contributors: Debra McIntosh, Ancestry of Charles Sidney Smith. Side note: Maurice Hawks once expressed to me that my mother Esther Wilson (Sanders)1908-2002 was his first teacher in 1931. Maurice was a member of the Book Project Group which met at the Council on Aging Cassopolis, Michigan. His expertise was on the Hawks Family and their history in Cass County.
