Sanders 1885-1980 Edna Sanders shares a marker with her husband Oscar Sanders. Edna was born 2 Aug 1885 in Cass Co. Edna Bell Vaughn was the daughter of Uriah Vaughn b. 1857 and Helena Anderson b. 1865. Edna Vaughn had 6 siblings: Byron Ulysses Vaughn b. 30 Dec 1881, Sadie Vaughn (Ford) b. 28 Oct 1883, Harlan Vaughn b. 1887, Retta Vaughn (Brown) b. 1889, Glendora Vaughn (Evans) b. 10 Mar 1898. Edna achieved an eighth grade education. When 16 years of age Edna worked for $2.50 a week! At the age of 24, Edna B. Vaughn married Oscar Sanders on 21 Jan 1905 in Cass County, Michigan. They lived in Calvin Township and later moved to Porter Township. Their offspring were Lester Sanders, b. 1906, Estella Bernice Sanders, b. 25 Feb 1909 Cass Co., Marshall Howe Sanders, Sr. b. 10 Mar 1911 Porter Twp, Myrl Sanders, b. 1918. Edna was a member of Mt. Zion Church, but in 1928 she became a charter member of the Calvin Community Chapel Church. She was president of the Uplift League, a communion keeper, and an Eastern Star member. She was a tireless church worker for the two primary fund raisers; the annual Grove/Bush Meeting and the fall Rabbit Supper. Edna Vaughn Sanders died 8 Sep 1980 at the age of 95. Her service was held at Calvin Community Chapel on Thursday 11 Sep 1980 at 3:00 P.M., Reverend Julius Davis officiated. The organist was Jackie Simpson Haines, and the soloist was Sarah Davis. Pallbearers: Hursell Grady, Kenneth Haines, Alvin Steele, Emerson Haines, Clarence Haines and Ivan Lawson. Internment was at Chain Lake Cemetery. Funeral Services were conducted by Connelly Funeral Home, Cassopolis, Michigan.
