Henry Clay Wilson purchased an entire row of family plots at Chain Lake Cemetery. Henry Clay Wilson was born ~February 1, 1820 in North Carolina. His mother’s name is not known. Henry’s father whose name was also unknown was white. On February 24, 1840, Henry Clay Wilson married Catharine/Catharin Hunt in Robeson, NC. Catharin Hunt was born October 24, 1824 in NC. Between 1847 and 1849 Henry and Catharin moved from Robeson County, North Carolina to Decatur County Fugit Township, Indiana. In 1853 the family moved to Calvin Township, Cass County Michigan. Henry and Catharin Wilson were the parents of 10 children. The children were: Macom Wilson b. 1840 in NC, Catharine Wilson b. 1842 in NC, Elizabeth Wilson b. Oct. 17, 1844 in NC, Patience Wilson, b. Jul 1845 in NC, Henry Clay Wilson (Jr) b. May 5, 1847 in Robeson Co., NC, Emeline Wilson b. October 1849 in IN, Minerva Wilson, b. February 9, 1850 in IN, Levi Wilson b. Nov 1852 in IN, Hiram Wilson b. May 11, 1855 in MI, James (Big Jim) Wilson b. 1858 in MI. Henry Clay Wilson had a reputation for being shrewd, stern and frequently swore. He was a successful live stock farmer, and a large land owner in Calvin Township, Cass County. Henry Clay Wilson died April 1, 1887, at the age of 67 years and 2 months. The obelisk portion of Henry Clay Wilson’s marker was toppled by vandals October 2008. Fortunately the obelisk portion was unbroken.
