Levi Sanders was born in 1828 in Cabell Co. Virginia. The parents of Levi Sanders were Solomon Sanders, Sr. and Phyllis/Phillis Sanders.The siblings of Levi were Eli, Solomon Jr., Woodford, Jacob and Jason J. Sanders. Levi Sanders married Jane Rice, b. 1820 d. 28 Aug 1870, February 12, 1853. The children of Levi and Jane Rice Sanders were Calvin Sanders (1848-1926), Elihu Sanders (1856-1895), Mary Francis Sanders (1853-1870) and Cora Sanders (?). On June 27,1878 Levi married Martha F. Ash b. 1850. There were no children from this union. Note: Solomon Sanders, Sr. at he age of 61 was one of the slaves manumitted in 1849 by Sampson Sanders, a Cabell County Virginia planter. Sampson Sanders died 21 June 1849 and his will set aside $15,000 cash for the welfare of the slaves. Many of the Sanders slaves left Virginia for Michigan. Michigan was chosen because of inexpensive land and lenient laws regarding former slaves. Levi Sanders died of a heart attack in a dentist's office February 27, 1879 at the age of 53 years. Note: Some records indicate Levi's birth year as 1826/1827 and death as February 26, 1880.
