Oscar was born in Porter Township, Cass Co. and is the second oldest child of Calvin Sanders, b. 1848 in Virginia and Gertrude Brown, b. 1856 in Ohio. The siblings of Oscar are Mary Jane Sanders b. 1874, Carrie Sanders b. 1878 and Arthur Sanders b. 1882. Oscar married Edna B. Vaughn, 21 Jan 1905 in Calvin Township at the Chain Lake Baptist Church Parsonage. To this union four children were born. They were Lester Howard Sanders, b. 3 Oct 1905, Estella Bernice Sanders, b. 25 Feb 1909 Cass Co., Marshall Howe Sanders, Sr. b. 10 Mar 1911 Porter Twp, and Myrl Sanders, b. 25 Jul 1918. (Additionally it has been recently revealed Lucy Brown b. 1881 and Oscar Sanders had a child named Ethel Brown b. 1897.) Oscar and Edna farmed fifty-seven acres in Porter Township on the east side of Shavehead Lake. After 33 years they retired from farming and in 1944 moved to Vandalia, Michigan. They lived on Paradise Lake Rd near the railroad bed, on the east side of the road, in a brown shingled two story home (the home is no longer standing). Oscar and Edna celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary at their home on Sunday, 23 January 1955. However in their final years Oscar and wife Edna sold their Vandalia home and moved to Calvin Center to live in a smaller house adjacent to their daughter Estella B. nee Sanders Lawson. At the age of 88, Oscar Sanders died on Monday, 29 March 1965 in Calvin Township. The funeral service of Oscar Sanders was held at 2pm on Thursday, April 1, 1965 at the Connelly Funeral Home, Cassopolis Michigan. Reverend Samuel Watson officiated the service. Interment: Chain Lake Cemetery, Calvin Township, Cass County, Michigan. Relationship: Oscar Sanders is father of Marshall Howe Sanders, Sr. He is the paternal Grandfather of Marshall Howe Sanders, Jr. and Maurice Wilson Sanders and 6 other grandchildren (Imogene Lawson, Sandra Lawson, Donna Lee Sanders, Donald Sanders, Audrey Lawson and Paul Lawson.
