This marker is laying in the ground.  The letter or word following Colored on 
the marker is not distinguishable.

Richard Madison Stewart was born circa 1827 in OH.  Richard Madison Stewart is 
the son of Richard Stewart and Barbara Creacy.

Richard Madison Stewart married Lucinda Mathews 27 Apr 1849 in Gallia Co. OH.  

Richard M. and Lucinda Stewart were the parents of:  William J. b. 13 Nov 
1850, Louisa J. b. 2 Sep 1851, Barbara Ann b. 10 Sep 1854, Richard C. b. 8 Jan 
1857, Susan b. 14 Sep 1858, Harriet M. b. 10 Nov 1859, Pleasant A. b. 2 Aug 
1861, Catherine E. b. 28 Apr 1863, Amanda M. b. 28 Nov 1864.

Richard M. Stewart enlisted on 26 Oct 1864 in Urbana OH. He enlisted to serve 
with the USCT Volunteers for one year.  Richard was a private in the 12th USCT 
Co D. and was unassigned.

Richard Madison Stewart died 9 Jan 1865 in Nashville TN, at the Wilson 
Hospital, while serving in the Civil War.  The cause of death for Richard 
Madison Stewart was pneumonia.
