Newsom Tann was born ~14 Mar 1814 in Northampton Co. NC.  His mother was 
Patsey Tann b. 1793 in Northampton Co. NC. 

1840 Census - Newsom Tann is living Monroe Township, Logan Co. OH. and head of 
household of 4 "free colored", Census Pg. 19. 

1850 Census - Newsom Tann is living in Cass Co. MI and married (Catherine). 

Newsom Tann married: 
Wife #1:  Catherine (?) b. 1815 in NC.  Newsom and Catherine were married 7 
Aug 1834 in Muskingum, OH. They were the parents of Margaret H. Tann born 
~1836 in OH.  

Note: Margaret Tann m. #1 Andrew Shavers in Cass Co. 31 Dec 1854 and #2 Exum 
A. Roberts on 23 Sep 1855 Jefferson Twp. Cass Co. MI. 

Wife #2:  Rachel (?) Brown b. ~1839 in IN.  Rachel had two previous children 
Martha Brown b. 1852 and Seneca Brown 1857.  Rachel was called Aunt Rachel 
Tann.  Rachel died 10 Feb 1919 at the age of 80 years and is buried at Bethel 
Cemetery, Calvin Twp., Cass Co. MI. 

Newsom Tann at the age of 65 years was found dead on his Calvin Twp. farm 
August 21, 1879.
