Alger 1900-1999 OBITUARY Marcia H. Alger, 98, of Charlevoix, died Feb. 6. 1999 at Bortz Health Care of Petoskey. A spring grave side service will be scheduled with burial in Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix. Marcia was born March 27, 1900, in River Falls. Wis., the daughter of Harry Phineas and Ethel (Heasley) Hurlbuit. In 1922, she married Carlton W. Alger. She worked for the federal government in Washington, D.C. at the U.S. Information Agency, where she was known as the "Voice of America." Marcia retired from the government on Ian. 20, 1966. She moved to Charlevoix in 1973. Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Williams, of Annandale, Va.; son. James (Fay) Alger of Charlevoix; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grand-children, Marcia was preceded in death by her husband. and daughters, Carlyn Smith of Charlotte, N.C and Betty Christjansen of Terre Haute, Ind. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Charlevoix United Methodist Church building fund. Envelopes for memorials are available at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix.
