GEORGE ANDERSON DIED LAST WEDNESDAY NIGHT Had Been Resident of This County-Over Half Century - Funeral Service Saturday Afternoon Death again took its toll of beloved and respected Charlevoix pioneers with the passing last Wednesday night of Mrs. George Anderson, who succumbed at the Bridge street home of her daughter, Mrs. Martin Block, following an illness of several years. Sarah Elizabeth Shapton was born March 31, 1859, at Avonton, Ontario, the daughter of John and Sarah Shapton. She was raised to womanhood at the place of her birth said there was married on October 3, 1876, to George Anderson, who preceded her in death at Charlevoix on January 18, 1921. Immediately following their marriage, 54 years ago, the couple came to this county, settling on a farm in the Barnard district, where they resided until moving to this city in 1909. Mrs. Anderson had made her home with her daughter since the death of Mr. Anderson. Surviving Mrs. Anderson are two daughters, Mrs. Martin Block of this city, and Mrs. George Oldham of Hibbing, Minn. A son, Louis Wm. Anderson, is deceased. Other surviving relatives are two grandchildren. Clare Oldham, Chicago, and Helen Oldham, Hibbing, Minn.; also four brothers, Richard and Will Shapton of Charlevoix, Thomas Shapton of Flint, and John Shapton, Aberdean, Washington. Mrs. Anderson, a staunch christian throughout her life, was a member of the Methodist church at the place of her birth, and later of the Charlevoix Methodist church, where funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon by Rev. W. W. Hurd, pastor. Interment was at Brookside cemetery. The large attendance at the funeral services Saturday afternoon attested to the esteem in which Mrs. Anderson was held by all who knew her. Barnard friends were saddened to hear of the death of Mrs. Anderson in Charlevoix last week. She was a pioneer resident in this community and will be mourned by a large circle of friends here.
