Lois died May 23, 1944. Charlevoix Courier May 24, 1944 LOIS CAMPBELL HAS PASSED ON ACTIVE IN CHARLEVOIX'S LIFE FOR MANY YEARS Widow Of Late Captain Peter D. Campbell Dies At Hospital After Long Illness All Charlevoix mourns the passing of Mrs. P. D. Campbell at the Charlevoix Hospital Tuesday morning, May 23rd, after a long illness. Mrs. Campbell was born Lois Emily Allen in Hampshire, Ill., November 12, 1856, and was married to Capt. Peter D. Campbell of Muskegon December 17, 1874, where Capt. Campbell was engaged in the steam barge business, transporting white pine lumber from Michigan ports to Chicago. To this marriage were born four children, Ira A. Campbell of New York City, Jeannette, Mrs. Arba H. Cameron of Detroit, Peter Donald of Charlevoix, and John Harvey, deceased. During the family life in Whitehall, Mrs. Campbell was actively identified with the villageschool system, and was the first woman to serve on the school board. In 1897 the Campbell family moved to Charlevoix, where Capt. Campbell operated the mail route between Charlevoix and Beaver Island for about 20 years. Mr. Campbell died in April, 1916. Mrs. Campbell has been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church since her early girlhood and also a devoted member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, and throughout her life has been keenly interested in civic and national affairs. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Carrie Bickford of Hampshire, Ill., three children, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services will be held at the Glenn See Funeral Home on Thursday at 2 p. m. with Rev. Leigh H. Hagle officating, interment in Brookside Cemetery. Those from out of town who attended the funeral services for Mrs. P. D. Campbell, Sr. on Thursday were Ira Campbell, of New York city, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Cameron, Mrs. Harvey Campbell, and John P. Campbell of Detroit.
