Born September 21, 1855, at Guelph, Ont., Mr. Clark, when a lad of eight, came here with his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Clark, in 1864. Charlevoix, then known as Pine River, boasted about three residents. Antrim City was the nearest trading point. The Clarks homesteaded a farm south of Barnard which was occupied by the son until recent years. Mr. Clark assisted in the construction of the channel connecting Round Lake and Lake Michigan, helped clear the homesteaded land and cut much of the timber from the southwest district of the present city of Charlevoix. He saw this city through its development from almost its earliest days. Mr. Clark was married in 1876 to Ella VanDusen, who died in 1879. A son, Delbert, now of Eaton Rapids, was born to this union. In 1883 he married Mary A. Baker, who survives in addition to two sons and a daughter, viz.: S. B. Clark, of Dallas, Tex., John W., of this city, and Mrs. R. A. Reid, of Detroit; also three sisters, Mrs. Johana Trimble, this city, Mrs. Marie Trimble, Eaton Rapids, Mrs. Elizabeth McMillan, Concordia, Sask. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon by Rev. G. R. Parker at the Glenn S. See funeral chapel.
