His mother died when he was a small boy and he was taken by his uncle, Richard Cooper Sr., in Harbor Springs, until the second marriage of Moses Cooper, his father, in 1869. His early days were then spent in Hayes, where he received his education. Later he sailed on the lakes. At the time of his death he was employed as caretaker of the estate on Oyster bay. During his illness it can be said of him that he was an exceptionally patient sufferer and always had a keen sense of humor. , He is survived by his stepmother, Mrs. Olive Cooper, two sisters, Miss Vera Cooper of Chicago, and Mrs. Nora Brown of Charlevoix. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the horne of his sister, Mrs. Nora Brown, Rev. I. T. Mark of the Church of God officiating. Burial at Brookside. _____________________________________________________________ RICHARD COOPER DIES IN LOCKWOOD HOSPITAL Richard Cooper, a lifelong resident of this region, all of which, with the exception of four years in early life when he lived at Harbor Springs, he was a resident of Hayes township, passed away at Lockwood hospital, Petoskey, June 4th, his death following his entrance to that institution for an operation about two weeks before his death, prior to which he had been in ill health some months. He was born in Charlevoix April 4th, 1865, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Moses Cooper. His mother died soon after his birth and from that time until his father remarried in 1869 the lad lived with his uncle Richard Cooper at Harbor Springs. Thereafter Hayes township was his home where in later years, after the death of his father, he was caretaker and in charge of the family estate, until forced by ill health to relinquish the duties involved in connection with the estate located on Oyster Bay. He is survived by his stepmother, Mrs. Olive Cooper and two sisters, Miss Vera Cooper of Chicago and Mrs. Nora Brown of Charlevoix. Funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at the home of his sister, Mrs. Brown herein mentioned with Rev. I. T. Mark officiating.
