DeWildt US ARMY World War II 1920-2013 ack William DeWildt passed away peacefully April 29, 2013 at the age of 92. He was born October 26, 1920 to his parents, Peter and Ethel DeWildt. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Natalie Kloosterman and Donald DeWildt. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Eleanor Beth DeWildt; his children, Gail (Gary) Plum of Traverse City, Jaci (Gary) Busscher of Muskegon, Gary (Karen) DeWildt of Wyoming, Darlene (Craig) Nollar of Wyoming, Dean (Carolyn) DeWildt of Midland; 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Dick DeWildt of South Haven. Jack was born and raised in Grand Rapids, and was a graduate of South High. He proudly served his country during WWII for three years. After 40 years at Michigan Bell Telephone, Jack retired in 1980. He enjoyed his summers in Charlevoix surrounded by family, and escaped with Beth to Bradenton, Florida during the winter months. Jack also loved watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports. He will be missed on the sidelines and in the stands, but perhaps not by the umpires and officials. One of the greatest legacies Jack leaves is family summers on the lakes and beaches of Charlevoix. His grandchildren and great grandchildren will continue the tradition of whiffle ball games on the back forty, where Moe often served as all-time umpire, pitcher and groundskeeper. His generosity that made for endless good times on Stover Road for the entire family will be remembered forever. He and his lucky red marbles will be missed around the Joker board. He'll be remembered for his burnt breakfast toast, favorite red sweatshirt, and his cherished collection of ball caps. Husband, Father, Grandpa, Moe… he'll be missed. A ceremony celebrating Jack's life will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Chapel (Kentwood), 4646 Kalamazoo SE, Kentwood, MI 49508 with a time of visitation from noon until the time of service. A graveside service for Jack will be held at Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix, Michigan on Friday, May 3, 2013 at noon. In honor of Jack, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or Spectrum Health Hospice and Palliative Care. Condolences may be sent online at www.mkdfuneralhome.com.
