Halvorson 1869 - 1935 Father Samuel Halvorson 1865 - 1942 Maria Halvorson OBITUARY HALVERSON DEATH TUES. Following Illness Extending Over A Long Period Mrs. Samuel Halverson died Tuesday forenoon, her passing following an illness that had been persistent over a five year period. Her maiden name was Mary Hansen. She was born at Milwaukee, July 4, 1869, therefore, at the time of her death was in her sixty-seventh year. December 6, 1888 she married Samuel Halverson at Sheboygan, Wisconsin, who, with his family came to Charlevoix in 1902 where they have since made their permanent home at 201 Hurlbut avenue. Mrs. Halverson is survived by her husband and ten children. Seven daughters; Mrs. Sadie Bartlett, Charlevoix; Mrs. Lydia Orvis, Ironton; Mrs. Alma Fairweather, Gloucester, Mass; Mrs. Irene DeCastro, Milwaukee, Wis.; Mrs. Vern Buddy, Charlevoix; Miss Geraldine Halverson, Grand Rapids and Miss Helen Halverson at home.Also three sons, Helmar ol Gloucester, Mass; Sander of Charlevoix and Martin ol Flint, Mich.Funeral service will be held from the Church of God Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with the pastor, Dr. C. A. Stewart officiating. Samel Halvorson OBITUARY SAMUEL HALVERSON IS TAKEN BY DEATH Was Engaged Commercial Fishing for Many Years Samuel Halverson, 77, veteran fisherman of this community, died last Wednesday evening. He had suffered a stroke on Monday evening, but had been active until then. Born in Holmstron, Norway, April 10, 1865, he came to this country at the age of eighteen. He made his home in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and sailed the Great Lakes from that port for many years. In 1888 he married Mary Hansen, and they came to Charlevoix in 1902. In 1908 Mr. Halverson went to Portland, Maine, to introduce gill-net fishing on the Atlantic coast. He returned later to Charlevoix, and in 1910 took his family to Gloucester, Mass., where they remained until 1913. Mrs. Halverson died here December 4, 1934. Mr. Halverson was a commercial fisherman for 35 years, retiring only a few years ago. Surviving are two sons, Sander, of Charlevoix, and Martin, of Flint; seven daughters, Mrs. Sadie Bartlett, of Charlevoix, Mrs. Lydia (Orvis, of Ironton, Mrs. Alma Fairweather, of Gloucester, Mass., Mrs. Irene DeCastro and Mrs. Vera Buddy, of Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Geraldine Gillette, of Grandville, and Mrs. Helen Belding, of Lansing; also twenty-six grandchildren and fourteen great- grand-children. Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the See Funeral Home, Rev. W. L. Cruthers officiating. Interment was at Brookside cemetery.
