Bessie Hanshew died Feb. 1, 1935 at Flint, Michigan. OBITUARY FORMER LOCAL WOMAN BURIED HERE MONDAY Bessie Hanshew Died Saturday, February 1, at Flint Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Brookside chapel for Bessie Hanshew, former local young woman, who died Saturday, February 1, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. V. 0. Cram of Flint. Services were conducted Sunday at Flint. Accompanying the body here were V. 0. Cram and son, David, and Mrs. Harold Jacobs of Flint; Commander Ward Bennett and Mrs. Bennett and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Whitehead and son of Grand Haven. Deceased was born in Marion township, April 2, 1890. She graduated from Charlevoix high school and the county normal, taught two years in rural schools and four years at the Lincoln ward school here. She was employed as bookkeeper two years in Chicago, and for a like period was with the literary department of the Church of Christ, Scientist, at Boston, Mass. She had resided about ten years in Flint, where she was second reader in the Scientist Church. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Eva Hanshew; two brothers, Justine of Detroit, and Clarence of Durand; three sisters, Mrs. V. 0.
