Hanshew 1858-1916 OBITUARY Charlevoix Courier DEATH CALLS A. A. HANSHEW RESIDENT OF CHARLEVOIX FOR OVER 22 YEARS. Was R. F. D. Carrier on Route No.3 for Over Ten Years—Funeral Services Thursday. The death of Alonzo A. Han-shew, for the past 22 years a resident of this city, occurred at his home on West Antrim street Monday morning about 5 o'clock, after a period of poor health lasting over a year. Deceased was born in Tipton county, Indiana, in 1858, and was 58 years of age when death called him. He was married 33 years ago to Miss Eva Liscum. To this union six children were born, four daughters — Mrs Ward Bennett, Bessie, Florence and Edith—and two sons, Clarence and Justin, all of whom, with the mother, survive him. Lon, as he was usually called, was well known in this section. During the early days of his residence here he sailed on the lakes following this until about ten years ago, when the R. F. D. routes were established. He was appointed the first carrier on Route No. 3, continuing this until during the fall of last year, when his health compelled him to turn it over to his son Clarence, who had been appointed substitute carrier. At the recent city election he was the choice of Republican candidates for the office of city treasurer, but the condition of his health was such that he was unable to fulfill the duties of the office. He was an industrious, honest and public-spirited citizen, and his death has caused deep sorrow among his many friends, by whom he was held in high regard. He was a member of the I. O. O F. and Encampment, also of the Maccabee order. Funeral services will be held from the home on Antrim street, Thursday, at 10:00 a. m., in charge of the First Church of Christ, Scientist. Members of the I. 0. 0. F. will act as escort to the cemetery, where the regular ritualistic services are to be held.
