Helms, 71, widow of the late James Bird Helms, died at her home Wednesday, following a heart attack. Funeral services were held at the See funeral home at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon with the Rev. W. D. Wood officiating. Interment was in the Brookside cemetery. Clara Elizabeth Austin was born at Utica, N. Y., on May 11, 1875, and came to Michigan as a young girl. She was married to Mr. Helms at Bellaire in March, 1901, and resided in North Dakota a short time before coming to Marion township in. 1902. They moved to Charlevoix in 1913. Mr. Helms preceded her in death Oct. 25, 1945. She is survived by two sons, Elmo, of Detroit, and Ilo, of this city; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. _________________________________________________________ Additional Comments: OBITUARY Services Are Held for James Helms James Bird Helms, 70, resident of this community for more than 40 years, died unexpectedly at his home Thursday afternoon. Mr. Helms was born at Ithaca on May 25. 1875. In March, 1901, he married Clara E. Austin at Mancelona where he was employed at the Antrim Iron Works. They later made their home in North Dakota a short time before coming to a farm in Marion township in 1902. In 1913 they moved to Charlevoix. He was employed by the Charlevoix county road commission for many years and for the past six years had been employed at the court house as caretaker. He had retired October 1. He was a member of the IOOF. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Elmo, of Detroit, and Ilo, of Charlevoix; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Mrs. E. E. Folander, of Charlevoix and Mrs. Lulu Monty, of Flint. Funeral services were held at the See Funeral Home at two o’clock Monday afternoon with the Rev. W. D. Wood officiating. Interment was at Brookside cemetery.
