Hines 1861-1945 OBITUARY Charlevoix Courier - 1945 Pioneer Resident Died Monday Mrs. Alice Hines Passes After Years of Ill Health Mrs. Alice E. Hines, 83, resident of Charlevoix for 75 years, died at her home on south Bridge street Monday morning following several years of ill health. Born a Whitehall, Wis., on Nov.29,1861, Alice E. Carpenter came to Charlevoix with her father, Egbert Carpenter, who settled here in 1870. Her husband, Franklin G. Hines, pioneer druggist in this city, died in 1936. Since his death she has made her home with her son, Galo Hines. Mrs. Hines was a charter member of the local chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and was one of the first Worthy Matrons of this chapter. She also was a member and former First Reader of the Christian Science Society. Surviving are three sons, Karl F. Hines, of Detroit; Otto L. Hines, of Ocean Park, Calif.; and Galo E. Hines of this city; one sister, Mrs. Jones McCrorey, of Allendale, Fla.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the See Funeral Home at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Julia Durance, First Reader of the Christian Science Society, conducted the service. Interment was at the Brookside cemetery.
