Hines 1860-1936 OBITUARY Charlevoix Courier SUCCUMBED MONDAY MORNING AT DETROIT HOSPITAL Was Pioneer Charlevoix Business Man, City Official, Veteran Mason -Funeral Date Not Set. Charlevoix was saddened Monday morning by word from Detroit of the death of Frank G. Hines, one of this city's pioneer business men. Death occurred at Mercy Hospital, where he had gone for medical treatment. Deceased was born in Ontario, Canada, in 1860. At the age of four years he moved to New York with his parents and later to Pennsylvania and Cincinnati, O., where he received his education and grew to manhood. He came to Ironton with his family when a young man. His father, a carpenter and contractor, was employed in the construction of buildings and docks for the old Pine Lake Iron Co. Mr. Hines worked in the company store and as bookkeeper. When his family moved to Charlevoix, Mr. Hines took a position with George W. Crouter in Charlevoix's first drug store. About 58 years ago he married Miss Alice Carpenter and entered the drug business in partnership with Egbert Carpenter in the Carpenter building, located where the information bureau now stands. He continued in the business about 45 years before selling to F. J. Fessenden. In late years he has worked as a pharmacist for his successor. Mr. Hines had served as Charlevoix city treasurer and in other official capacities. He was a Mason since young manhood. He had been worshipful master of Charlevoix Lodge No. 282, F. & A. M., and many years as trustee of the Blue Lodge. He was the first treasurer of the Masonic Building and Loan Association, serving in that capacity until recent years. Surviving him are the widow, Mrs. Alice Hines, and three sons, Karl F., of Detroit, Galo E. and Otto H., of Santa Monica, Calif.
