INGALLS WAS A WOMAN OF EXCEPTIONAL CHARACTER Her Sudden passing Last Sunday Has Left Many Sorrow Hearts to Mourn Her Mrs. Josephine Ingalls, wife of Elmer Ingalls of Rural Route No 1, Charlevoix, died at the Charlevoix Hospital last Sunday evening from the effects of peritonitis, following an operation for the removal of a ruptured appendix. She was in her sixtieth year. Mrs. Ingalls, who had been ailing for some time, was finally brought to the hospital on Tuesday of last week and was operated on the following day. Little hopes were entertained of her recovery and the fears of relatives and friends were confirmed when the end came Sunday, at 5:45 p. m. Josephine Peterson was born in Zeeland, near Copenhagen, Denmark, October 3, 1863. She came to this country with her parents when about six years of age, first residing in Racine, Wis., later removing to Ypailanti, Mich. She was married to Elmer Ingalls twenty-six years ago last September. To this union was born but one child, Nellie, who is now a teacher in the Boyne City schools. The mother instinct was, however, strong in Mrs. Ingalls and she found time throughout a long and busy life as a farm housewife to extend a tender, maternal care to six motherless children, whom, in the goodness and greatness of her heart, she took into her home and treated as her own. In this respect as in other of its manifestations, her life was a wordless sermon and shining example. Besides her husband and daughter, Nellie, the surviving relatives are a sister, Mrs. Marie Cooper of Orchard, Washington and two brothers, Peter of Orchard, Washington and Fred of Sanger, California. Mrs. Ingalls was a member of the Baptist church at Ypailanti for many years and also of the local W. C. T. U, for several years. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in this city on Tuesday, February 26th, at two p. m. Rev. H. R. E. Quant officiating. The remains were placed in the vault at Brookside.
