Ingalls 1866-1941 OBITUARY Charlevoix Courier August 27, 1941 ELMER INGALLS, MARION PIONEER, DIED AUG. 21 Operated Dairy Farm Over Thirty Years; Funeral Saturday Elmer H. Ingalls, 74, pioneer farmer of Charlevoix and Antrim Counties, died Thursday morning at Charlevoix Hospital after a long period of ill health. He was born December 3, 1866, in Genesee county. At that time his parents had a homestead in Banks township, Antrim county, and in this community he made his home until about 1900, when he came to Marion township, Charlevoix county. Mr. Ingalls operated a dairy farm in Marion township for more than thirty years. He served as supervisor in Banks and Marion townships, as a member of the school board in Bentley and Marion school districts. He was a member of the Gleaners, Pomona Grange, and the Masonic order. In 1897 Mr. Ingalls married Josie Peterson, who died in February, 1924. They had one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Burdine, and adopted another daughter, Mrs, Anna Rice. Mr. and Mrs. Ingalls also provided a home for six other children. In 1930, he married Mrs. Colden, of East Jordan. She died in 1933. He was married in 1938 to Mrs. Elsie O'Dell, of Petoskey, who survives. Surviving besides the wife are two brothers, D. E. Ingalis of Marion township, and J. M. Ingalls of East Jordan; a daughter, Mrs. Nellie Burdine of Marlette; an adopted daughter, Mrs. Anna Rice; two grandchildren, Lydell and Virginia Burdine of Mariette; and seven stepchildren, Mrs. Ruth Witte of Petoskey, Ralph O'Dell, of Detroit, Agnes, Nellie, Ila, Geraid and Eugene O'Dell, at home. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Leigh H. Hagle from the See Funeral Home at 3:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Interment was at Brookside cemetery.
