Jacobs 1871 - 1945 Birth: Mar., 1871, Webberville, Ingham County, Michigan Death: Jul. 7, 1945, Charlevoix, Charlevoix County, Michigan OBITUARY Former Merchant Dies Saturday As Result of Stroke Henry B. Jacobs Was Resident Here For Past 51 Years Henry B. Jacobs, 74, retired businessman, died at his home on Bridge street late Saturday evening after an illness of eight years. He had suffered a stroke earlier in the week. Mr. Jacobs was born at Webberville on March 9, 1871. On May 28, 1891, he married Susie Durgan and they made their home at Grayling for a short time before coming to Charlevoix 51 years ago. Mrs. Jacobs died November, 1916. After coming here Mr. Jacobs was employed at the L. S. See Grocery store for 18 years and when the business was sold to Charles Danto, he remained for two years more before establishing his own business which he operated for 21 years. Ill health forced his retirement in 1937. On Sept. 2, 1917, he married Mrs. Margaret Lamphear, who died in January, 1934. He was a member of the Methodist church and had been affiliated with the IOOF and the Knight of Pythias lodges. Surviving are his wife, the former Florence Stout, whom he married in September, 1934; two sons, Kenneth, of Washington, D. C.; and Harold, of Flint; one daughter, Mrs. Glenn Ellis, of Petoskey; one grand-daughter, and one brother, W. D. Jacobs, of Pontiac. Pallbearers were Earl Johnson, Walter Taylor, Maurice Ackert, Harley Ochs, Karl Kohler and Ralph Washburn. Funeral services were held at the See Funeral Home at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Gaylord Howell officiating.
