Murray, 96, of Charlevoix, died on Saturday, July 29, at Grandvuc Mcdical Care Facility in East Jordan. A funeral will take place at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the Community Reformed Church in Charlevoix. Jan Boss will officiate and burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix. Clarence was born on Nov. 22, 1909, in Charlevoix to Clarcncc E. and Carrie (Bassett) Murray. He married the former Hazel VanDusen in Charlevoix on May 24, 1930. Clarence was a hard worker, and held a variety of jobs, including helping his father-in-law on the farm as well as working at Penn-Dixie Cement Plant, the Charlevoix pickle factory, the Charlevoix Co-Op, Cities Service fuel terminal, and Winchester Funeral Home. He retired in 1975 from The Charlevoix Oil Company after 25 years, and then worked as a ground-skceper and night watchman at the Belvedere Club for 10 years. Clarence and Hazel were active members of the Community Reformed Church in Charlevoix. Hazel preceded him in death on Aug. 17, 1999. Clarence is survived by his daughter, Joyce Barber of Lompoc, Calif.; son, Bruce (Wanda) Murray of Charlevoix; grandchildren, Kim, Kris, Gordon, Kay, Ron and Don; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-greatgrandchildren; sister, Velma Troupe of Belmont; son-in-law, Cass (Donna) Russell of Charlevoix. Clarence was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Russell; grandchildren, Doug Barber and Gayle Barber; sister, Virginia. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Reformed Church in Charlevoix, or to Grandvue Medical Care Facility Alzheimer's Unit. ______________________________________________ OBITUARY Hazel E. Murray Hazel E. Murray, 88, of Charlevoix, died August 17, in Norwood Township. Funeral Service was 2 p.m.. Friday, August 20, at the Community Reformed Churchsin Charlevoix. The Reverend Larry Grooters officiating. Burial followed in Brookside Cemetery. Hazel was born May 30, 1911, in Charlevoix, the daughter of Orton and Winfred (Blanchard) VanDusen. She attended Charlevoix Schools and graduated in 1929. On May 24. 1930 she married Clarence Murray, in Charlevoix. Hazel began a career as a nurses aid at Charlevoix Area Hospital. She continued this work at Petoskcy's Little Traverse Hospital for 8 years before joining Dr. William McCullough's staff at Burns Clinic where she worked until her retirement. Mrs. Murray was a member of the Community Reformed Church since 1981, and the Charlevoix Area Hospital Women's Guild. She also did volunteer work at the Rainbow Shoppe, Charlevoix Area Hospital Gift Shop and the Charlevoix Senior Center. Hazel was a lifelong resident of Charlevoix and enjoyed making handmade items. She will be missed most for her selfless devotion and concern for others. Hazel is survived by her husband Clarence, of Charlevoix, a daughter, Joyce Barber, of Lompoc, CA; a son. Bruce Murray and his wife Wanda of Charlevoix and Lapeer; six grandchildren. Gordon Russell and his wife Sharon. Kay Rogers and her husband Ken. Kris Oppermann and her husband Jamie, all of Charlevoix. Kim Wilmers and her husband Roger, of Neenah, WI. Ron Barber, of Pasorobles, CA. and Don Barber and his wife Barbara, of Lompoc. CA; and thirteen greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Louise Russell; two grandchildren. Gayle Ann and Douglas James Barber; a sister Lula; and a brother Irwin.
