Newman May 25, 1842 - Aug.23,1915 ANOTHER PIONEER CALLED Mrs. Harriet Newman Had Lived in This Vicinity Over 56 Years. Charlevoix again loses one of its pioneer residents in the death of Mrs. Harriet Newman, who passed away at her home south of town Monday evening the hours of 10 and 11. The direct cause of her death was a general breaking down and the infirmaties of old age. Deceased was born in Iowa 73 years ago, and moved to Charlevoix county when but a young woman, having lived here about 56 years. She settled on the same farm upon which she died. She is survived by five children—four boys and one girl: John H., Edward H. and Herbert of Charlevoix; J. Austin of Acampo, California, and daughter, Julia, who lives at the old homestead. Mrs. Newman experienced all the the hardships and privations of early pioneer life and with her deceased husband took an active part in the development of Charlevoix and immediate vicinity. Funeral services were held from the former residence on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Quinton Walker, officiating. Interment at Brookside cemetery.
