Pauline Yahr was born in Germany on July 30, 1862, and came to Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, with her parents when she was five years old. The family later moved to Caledonia, Mich., where she was married to George Shantz in 1881. They made their home in Caledonia until coming to Hayes township in 1897. In 1935 Mrs. Shantz came to Charlevoix to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Minnie Gregory. Mr. Shantz preceded her in death 23 years ago. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Emma) Muscott, of Indian River, and Mrs. Minnie Gregory, of this city; three sons, George, of Petoskey, Paul, of Norwood, and Isaac, of Resort township in Emmet county; three step-daughters, Mrs. Matilda VanDucturn, of Lansing, Mrs. Elizabeth VanderStop, of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Hannah DeWinters, of Kalamazoo; three brothers, Edward and Fred Yahr, of Bay Shore, and John Yahr, of Pinconning; 24 grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Donald R. Evans and Rev. G. R. Parker, of Northport, at the Congregational church at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Burial was at Brookside cemetery.
