Schleman 1910-1997 Obituary Courtesy Charlevoix Library Obituaries Charlevoix Courier Robert W. Schleman Robert W. Schleman, 87, of Charlevoix (and formerly of South Bend and Dayton) died Sept. 6, 1997, at Charlevoix Area Hospital. Graveside service was at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Sept. 9, 11 a.m.. at Brookside Cemetery. The Rev. Philip G. Schairbaum of the First Congregational Church of Charlevoix officiated. Mr. Schleman was born March 8, 1910, in Dayton. Ohio, the son of William and Nellie (Brehm) Schleman. He was raised in Dayton and graduated from the Brothers of Saint Mary's School in Dayton in 1928. He then graduated from the University of Dayton in 1932 and attended Harvard University Business School for three years. On June 23. 1934, he married the former Virginia M. Burden in Dayton and was married for over 63 years. He owned tool and die shops in South Bond, Evansville, and Fort Wayne, Ind., Dayton. Ohio, and Detroit, Mich. In the late 1940s, he founded the Stream-Eze Co. in Charlevoix, which occupied the Foster Boat Works building. At this facility. Mr Schleman was the first manufacturer of fiberglass fishing rods and bows. Mr. Schleman was a member of the First Congregational Church in Charlevoix. He is survived by his wife, Virginia M. of Charlevoix; one daughter, Susann and her husband, John R. Ring, Jr., of Dallas. Texas: two sons, William R. Schleman of Dayton, Ohio, and Steven E. and his wife, Kelly Schleman, of Toledo, Ohio; eight grandchildren, one greatgrandchild; one sister, Dorothy, and her husband, Harman Darrow, of Dayton, Ohio.
